WOW…I was just informed that we have distributed over 7,000 Christmas tickets for our services on December 20 & 21st…and we’ve been promoting this less than two weeks.

(You can get them here if you haven’t yet!)
Let me just say this…I honestly believe that this Christmas is going to be the most direct, high energy and dynamic presentation of the Gospel we’ve ever put together at NewSpring Church.

AND…recent studies have shown that an unchurched person is more likely to come to a Christmas service (IF INVITED) than any other service during the year (including Easter!)

We’ve pulled out ALL of the stops this year…we’re going all out so that you can BRING people with you who are unchurched so that they can hear the Gospel…in a way that they will NEVER forget.

SO…once again, go here to get your FREE tickets…or you can pick them up Sunday.

Service times are…

Anderson - Saturday, December 20th @ 4 & 6pm, Sunday, December 21st @ 9:15 & 11:15am & 6:00pm.

Greenville - Sunday, December 21st @ 9:15, 11:15am & 6pm.

Florence - Sunday, December 21st @ 10:30am.

One more thing…

People are asking if we would turn away anyone who does not have a ticket…

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

The reason we are doing the tickets are…

#1 - We want to know how many people are coming to each service so that we can make sure everyone has a seat, every child has room in our kid’s area and that ALL PEOPLE have an incredible experience! This process REALLY helps our church to serve the community!

#2 - The tickets are an INCREDIBLE TOOL for you to invite people to church!!! Seriously!!! BRING PEOPLE WITH YOU!!! :-)

AND…one more thing…don’t forget TOMORROW NIGHT (Friday) @ 7:00!!! We will be meeting together as a church for a time of prayer and worship…we’re expecting a FULL HOUSE so GET HERE EARLY!!!

Before reading this post and getting angry with me that I used an illustration with “crap” in it…take a look at Deuteronomy 23:12-14 where God tells the Israelites to get the crap out of the camp…MIGHT be a message out of this text in the future!)
Saturday morning is date morning…and when Charisse and I first began…we had an “interesting” ritual EVERY Saturday morning.

I would go upstairs to wake her up, change her diaper and then bring her downstairs to feed her (either Cheerios or a cereal bar and some fruit.)

After she ate (which took a while) we would then go upstairs, get her dressed and go outside or on a “car ride.”

BUT…not before she pooped.

Seriously, she always used to have an after breakfast poop…and if she wasn’t done pooping after she ate then we would just sit around and wait…

WHICH sometimes bothered me because I wanted to take her somewhere. I wanted her to experience new things. I wanted to see her go to places she had never gone before…

BUT…we could not moved until she got the crap out of her!!! Sometimes it took awhile…sometimes it happened immediately…but we didn’t move until she did her deal!

The same could be said with us and our walk with God…He is amazing, He is the perfect Father and wants to take us places in life that will absolutely blow our minds. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us His plans are awesome.

I say this often and people ask, “Then why do I feel stuck where I am?”

Could it be that He is waiting on you to get the crap out of your life?

Seriously, is there something in your life that you might call a bad habit or an “issue” that He would flat out call “crap” and tell you that you are staying where you are until you get it out of your life?

What is crap anyway? It is the stuff that our body has deemed wasteful and does not need. If God is asking you to get rid of something/quit something…then He knows that what He’s calling you to get rid of is wasteful…and you do not need it!

AND…if crap somehow gets into your bloodsteam…it can be toxic. The reason God wants the crap out of our lives isn’t because He doesn’t love it…but rather BECAUSE He loves us. He knows the damage it will do long term.

Sin, from God’s point of view…is CRAP! It is what caused Jesus to have to give His life on the cross. It’s the grossest thing in His sight…and instead of us forming groups in the church to talk about the crap in our lives and affirm our crappiness…He would rather us confess it and repent of it!!!
So…question…is there anything in your life that God would say is “crappy” and needs to go?

Just a thought!

Here goes the rest…

#4 - I’ve Moved From More To Less

I used to believe the myth that in order to be successful in ministry that I needed to be “well rounded” and try to be good at everything.

WRONG!

Especially in the past few years…I’ve really tried to key in on what I am passionate about and what I do well…knowing that others are gifted and passionate about the areas that I am not.

Many churched people expect pastors to be good at everything because they don’t want to do anything. AND…if you spend your time being obsessed with what others want you to be…you will NEVER be who God called you to be!!!

Question for leaders–what are you currently doing that you hate to do? Why not delegate it and become more focused on what you love to do. Operate from passion rather than obligation!

#5 - I’ve Moved From Talker To Listener

I used to think that I always had to be the one talking in every meeting…and that a comment was necessary from me in order to complete every thought from the person who came up with it. Uh…NOPE!

Especially in the past couple of years…I ask twice as many questions as I offer solutions. I want to hear from the people around me. I want to hear from other church leaders. The more I get into this church thing the more I realize that I really don’t know a lot…and I need all of the help I can get.

James 1:19 says that I should be QUICK to listen and SLOW to speak! God gave me two ears and one mouth for a reason!

#6 - I’ve Moved From My Perspective To His Perspective!

This one is still fresh…but here’s the deal I’ve been learning lately…if I am truly a servant of the MOST HIGH GOD then I need to take the risks He leads me to take and not worry about the problems that I so easily invent in my mind.

If He is Sovereign over the universe…then I have nothing to lose by being completely obedient to His voice.

#7 - I’ve Moved From Being Discovered To Being Developed.

I used to be passionate about others noticing me…now I just want God to shape me more and more into His image.

Those are some transitions I’ve went through…and I am sure there are more to come!

Just wanted to throw out a shout out about Friday night…

THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, December 5th at 7:00…a night of prayer and worship at NewSpring Church.

About a month ago I really felt the Lord put it on my heart that we, as a church, need to get together at specific times during the year for extended worship AND for prayer that God will continue to use the ministry here at NewSpring to draw hundreds and thousands to Him.

This coming Sunday we begin a brand new series entitled, “A NewSpring Christmas Party,” and every week is going to have VERY special element added to it.

BUT…our Christmas services (on Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st) are going to be the most direct presentation of the Gospel I believe we’ve ever given. AND…on the 5th we are going to come together as a body, sing like crazy to the MOST HIGH GOD…and then BEG HIM to do something great and awesome in our church during this Christmas season.

SO…see you there…Friday night, December 5th at 7:00…two more things…

#1 - GET HERE EARLY–we are expecting a full house!!!

#2 - Our children’s ministry WILL BE GOING FULL BLAST…so yes, your kids will have an awesome time too!!!

When I sit down with pastors and church leaders one of the most frequently asked questions of me is this, “How would you say your leadership has changed in the past several years?”

So…I sat down the other day in Starbucks and began listing the changes that I have noticed…and that others have brought to my attention…and there are seven that I will cover here…here goes…

#1 - I’ve Moved From Personal Preferences To Conviction.

When we lead by what we want rather than what God wants–we ALWAYS screw things up!

#2 - I’ve Moved From Decision Making To Delegation.

If I have godly people around me who love Jesus, hear from Jesus and love His church…then the best thing I can do is cast a clear and compelling vision and get out of their way! If I have to be involved in 100% of the decisions that go on around here I will hamstring this church.

#3 - I’ve Moved From Insecurity To Confidence.

I used to really be obsessed with what everyone thought about me and our church…and when someone spoke against either it would bother me for days.

But now…heck…I am serious when I say that I could really care less what other churched people think about what we are doing! I will answer one day to the MOST HIGH GOD and it should be my goal to please and honor Him…knowing that if I do so the religious will be offended and lash out…but by being true to the vision God has placed inside of me that hundreds and thousands of people will come to know Christ.

One of the things I enjoyed about Catalyst the most this year was Seth Godin’s presentation…for some reason it absolutely astounded me!!!

After his talk they gave everyone at Catalyst a copy of his new book, “Tribes.” (The theme song from Survivor just kicked off in my head!!!)

I had it in my office for several weeks until finally I began picking it up just to flip through it…and could not put it down.

Hands down…it is one of THE TOP FIVE LEADERSHIP BOOKS I’VE EVER READ! Seriously! (You can order it here…right now!!!)

Here are just a few quotes…

“People yearn for change, they relish being part of a movement and they talk about things that are remarkable, not boring.”

“Leaders make a ruckus.” (The redneck in me LOVED this quote!!!)

“Organizations that destroy the status quo win.” (DANG!)

“Boring ideas don’t spread. Boring organizations don’t grow.”

“We choose not to be remarkable because we’re worried about criticism. We hesitate to create innovative movies, launch new human resource initiatives, design a menu that makes diners take notice, or give an audacious sermon because we’re worried, deep down, that someone will hate it and call us on it.”

“If the only side effect of the criticism is that you will feel bad about the criticism, then you have to compare that bad feeling with the benefits you’ll get from actually doing something worth doing. Being remarkable is exciting, fun, profitable and great for your career. Feeling bad wears off.”

“Odds are that growth and success are now inextricably linked to breaking the odd rules and seeing your organization’s new rules loose an industry too afraid to change.”

“The art of leadership is understanding what you can’t compromise on.”

“Leadership requires acting and thinking like the underdog. That’s because leaders workto change things, and the people who are winning rarely do.”

“The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there. People will follow.”

Seriously, this book is amazing…get it…read it…enough said.

(By the way…I do not know Seth Godin, never met him…he has no idea who I am and did not ask me to endorse his book. I picked up the book, read it, liked it, was challenged by it and decided to blog about it. That’s how books get blogged about here…just FYI.)

What a day…trying to wrap my mind around all that I learned…several phases to Sunday Night Reflections tonight…

Phase #1 - Our Church

I LOVE what God is doing in our church…the anticipation level is through the roof right now…I feel like He’s going to BLOW OUR MINDS this next month and in 2009!

A church that refuses to take risks and is satisfied with the status quo will never become who God has called them to be…I am so glad our church isn’t satisfied…we want to see more of Jesus!

Our next series, “A NewSpring Christmas Party,” is going to be freakin’ awesome!!!

THIS FRIDAY NIGHT is our night of prayer and worship–be there, 7:00…and get there early or you won’t get a seat. We are going to beg God as a church to do great & awesome things among us during this upcoming season of ministry.

Last week I blogged about Christmas tickets here…they’re going like crazy…here is the link to get your tickets to our Christmas services.

Phase #2 - Today

Pastor Steven Furtick from Elevation Church spoke today and flat brought the house down.

I love Pastor Steven…he’s one of my best friends in the ministry…and we literally call each other every Sunday afternoon to encourage one another, challenge one another…and sometimes, talk one another off of a ledge! :-) (If you are a pastor…you understand!)

Our worship time today was amazing! Singing, “Holy, Holy are you Lord God Almighty” over and over rocked my world! I once heard a speaker say that the church has made the word “holy” quite boring…while in heaven the angels are amazed by it!!!

Steven challenged our church to not get so close to Jesus that we miss who He is and what He is doing.

My favorite line of the day, “Jesus away on a manger and sleeping in the hay this Christmas…He’s the ruling, reigning, powerful King of the Universe!”

My other favorite line, “Jesus didn’t die on a cross so you can sample churches like food from a party platter!”

The way he encouraged our volunteers was PRICELESS!

What happened at the end of the 6:00 service completely overwhelmed me. I wasn’t expecting it…and God used it to both encourage me and blow my mind. WOW!!!

Phase #3 - Last Week…

Last week I blogged about sex…it was quite fun…if you missed it I wrote about how a husband can have more frequent sex with his wife…

I set it up with this post

Here is part one for husbands

Here is part two

And then here is how wives can have more frequent sex with their husbands.

Phase #4 - Strange Happenings…

A lady whose blog I follow shot me an email the other day and asked me could she do a post entitled, “I can not stand Perry Noble.” She explained why…and I agreed.

It really is a pretty cool post in regards to how God did a work in her to change her perception of me and NewSpring Church…but it didn’t take long for the haters to come out…and it’s a little funny how people completely missed the point of her post.

You can read her post here and the comments if you would like. Did they bother me? A little…gotta be honest…but it’s just one of those deals where I can fight with those guys…but I would have to come down off the wall to do so. (Nehemiah 6:1-4)

I say all of this NOT for me personally, heck, I just don’t fight with people like that anymore. I say that to encourage a pastor out there somewhere. God has put it in your heart to do something great…you love Jesus and God is radically rocking your world…you want to see His church shine more than anything…

BUT…people are hating on you. They are attacking you. They are flat out lying about you. They’ve never been to your church and they attempt to judge your character by listening to selected portions of your sermons. (Which would make them superficial!)

Pastor…church leader…don’t come down off the wall!!! Spend some time reading Psalm 35 & how David dealt with the same stuff…and yet was called a man after God’s own heart. Don’t get caught up in fighting battles with the very people who decended from the party in power that led the murder of Jesus…just keep your eyes on Him, BEG Him for wisdom and be who God called you to be.

Trust me…if people aren’t hating on you…then you aren’t doing something right. You are ALWAYS going to piss people off…you can either piss those off far from God (the church has done an excellent job at that) or piss off those who are religious and immersed in self righteousness. You choose.

Whew! That was like therapy! AND…I seriously pray it encouraged someone.

AND…one more thing…Anne Jackson is an amazing lady…she wrote an incredible book that she graciously allowed me to be a part of…I can’t wait until it is released!!!

As many of you know…I’m sort of a work out freak!

I’ve read up on it, asked lots of people lots of questions, switched up routines…but I’ve NEVER hired a personal trainer…ever.

Until now…

You see, I’m not satisfied with the way things are. Sure, I’ve accomplished a lot when it comes to losing weight and exercise…but I really do believe I am capable of doing so much more…and that my full potential will ONLY be brought out with someone pushing me.

Bottom line…I can never achieve my maximum potential by working alone!

The same can be said of each one of us spiritually…we will never fully become who God wants us to be if we go at it alone!

The writer of Hebrews tells us in Hebrews 10:24-25 that we should not give up meeting together. I’ve always said that one of the first things the enemy wants to do to a believer is ISOLATE him…because after isolation comes destruction.

Who do you have in your life that pushes you, I mean REALLY pushes you to go to the next level in your walk with God? Who is it that you allow to ask you questions that sometimes make you uncomfortable?

We all need this…do you have it? What’s holding you back from doing it? Go for it…life is too short to be an apathetic follower of Jesus!
