A Letter From Pastor P To NewSpring Church September 27, 2011
Howdy NewSpring Church…five things I would love to share with you today…
#1 – I am STILL celebrating the 1,442 people that took their next step with Jesus this past Sunday by going public through baptism. EVERY SINGLE one of those people matter to God and have a story! I’ve NEVER seen that many people baptized in one day…EVER! Here is the baptism breakdown per campus…
- Anderson- 740
- Greenville- 253
- Florence- 158
- Columbia- 220
- Charleston- 71
#2 – I want everyone who is a part of NewSpring Church to literally take a minute today (hey, right now is actually a GREAT time) to stop and literally say “thank You Jesus” out loud for what He did at our church during the Revelation series…we saw over 600 people come to Christ and double that go public in baptism. We must NEVER allow the supernatural to become “normal!” EVER! AND…the reason to be thankful is that GOD, in HIS mercy and for HIS glory has decided to do this here at our church, not because we are so good…but because HE IS SO GOOD!
#3 – Hey NewSpring…if this is what God has done…then think about this, what is He getting READY TO DO? Luke 12:48 says to whom much has been given, much more will be demanded…and Philippians 1:6 promises us that if He began a good work then He will carry it on to completion. Our best days really are ahead of us!
#4 – THIS SUNDAY is going to be AMAZING! We are doing a three week series that is going to be kicked off by our teaching pastor Clayton King. AND…as always, BRING SOMEBODY! Seriously, I’m asking EVERYONE at NewSpring Church to read Romans 10:14-17 this week and when doing so ask the Lord who you need to share Christ with and/or invite to church…and WHEN HE puts someone on your heart then GO FOR IT! (By the way…it’s not an accident that you keep thinking about “that person” every time you read something like I just challenged you to do!)
#5 – I would ask that all of you keep me in your prayers. I boarded a plane yesterday and am in Estonia today where I will be speaking to a group of pastors and church leaders…and on Wednesday night I will be sharing the Gospel at an evangelism rally. THEN I will be visiting our friends at Freedom Church this weekend and I have been given the privilege/honor of preaching at two of their locations…one of them being in Cardiff that the Lord allowed us to partner with and help plant. Please pray for our safety…but even more than that pray that the Gospel will be made clear, that people will meet Christ and that church leaders will be encouraged. It is SO crazy to think that 11 years ago our church was a handful of people meeting in a living room and today the Lord is allowing us to take the Gospel all over the globe!
I LOVE YOU GUYS! I LOVE THIS CHURCH! AND…I love what I believe Jesus has in store for our future.

Where Is Our Focus? (10 Gut Check Ideas!) September 22, 2011
If I focus on my abilities, I will always feel overwhelmed and inadequate…if I focus on WHO God is and WHAT He has done, I will feel confident and secure.
If I focus on what others say about me, I will feel either pride or pain…if I focus on what God says about me, I will feel appreciative and thankful.
If I focus on what the world says, I will always change my mind to agree with culture…if I focus on what God says, I can life a live based on conviction rather than convenience.
If I focus on what the world says about money, I will most likely be broke…if I focus on what God says about money, I will be blessed!
If I focus on what the world says about relationships, then that part of my life will be marked with pain, frustration and regret…if I focus on what God says about relationships, then that part of my life will be marked by joy, life and victory.
If I focus on what the world says is valuable, I will waste my life in pursuit of meaningless things…if I focus on what God says is valuable, I will invest my life in things that matter for eternity.
If I focus on what the world says about the church, I will see it as either useless OR something I can use…if I focus on what God says about the church, I will honor His bride and treat her with honor and respect.
If I focus on what the world says about problems, I will be in a constant state of worry and stress…if I focus on what God says about problems, I will see they are nothing more than opportunities to know and see Him for how great He is.
If I focus on my past, I will live in defeat…if I focus on my potential in Christ, I will live in victory.
If I focus on this life, I will have zero urgency to share the Gospel…if I focus on the fact that eternity is reality for every person on the planet, I will do all that I can to share the Gospel with those I claim that I love and care for.
Let’s Talk About The Numbers September 21, 2011
There has always been a debate in church leadership circles about whether or not a church should talk about/celebrate numbers. AND…let me say that there are godly people on both sides of the argument and who will probably disagree with this post…which is fine. I just really wanted to share my thoughts on “the numbers.”
Pastor, church leader…I say SHARE the numbers, talk about the numbers, BUT when you do so do it with the understanding that you are BOASTING in what GOD is doing and be VERY quick not to celebrate yourself.
It’s funny…but as I read the book of Acts I see that Luke specifically recorded the number of people who received Christ in Acts 2:41…he then went on to make note of a specific number in Acts 4:4…after that he stopped trying to count because the numbers got too high. (And yet he did specifically mention “numbers” in Acts 5:14, Acts 6:1, Acts 6:7, Acts 9:31, Acts 11:21, Acts 14:1, Acts 14:21, Acts 16:5, Acts 17:12, Acts 28:23!) Now…either Luke was either obsessed with the wrong thing (which is a dangerous accusation) OR he is trying to make the point that it is OK for the church to CELEBRATE large numbers of people coming to Christ.
I’ve been told, “Perry, when you share your numbers it can make other churches feel bad.” A couple of problems with this…
#1 – If you are a church leader then the last thing you need to do is compare your churches numbers to someone else’s…doing so is insane because there will always be a church smaller than yours and there will always be one larger as well. If you compare yourself to the church with less numbers than you, then you will feel a sense of pride (which is sinful.) AND…if you compare yourself to the church with more people than you, then you will feel a sense of inadequacy and insecurity. The question you need to wrestle with is are you giving God your best with what He’s blessed you with.
#2 – My competition is NOT other churches…it’s with the enemy…and my passion is not to make other churches feel good or bad but rather to partner with God in rescuing as many people from hell as possible. (AND…according to the words of Jesus in Luke 15 when one sinner repents of his/her ways—btw Jesus used a number—there is a PARTY in heaven!)
It seems sort of weird to me…but some church leaders say that numbers do not matter…which could be one of the reasons church attendance in America is declining (while the population is increasing…anyone see a problem?) The church is the ONLY organization I know of that does that…sports teams do not, Wall Street does not, successful businesses do not…but the church often does. (AND…as Rick Warren says…if a church REALLY believes that numbers do no matter they should stop taking the offering!)
Pastor, church leader…CELEBRATE the numbers.
If you had ONE person come to Christ this week…CELEBRATE, Heaven did, why don’t we!?!?!?
If your church has been averaging 75 people and you broke 100 last week…THROW A PARTY, celebrate, get PUMPED!
If your church was averaging 100 people this time last year and this year you have 150…TELL SOMEBODY about it, DON’T HOLD BACK what THE LORD is doing in your church!!! BOAST IN HIM AND HIS WORK!!!
We’ve GOT to STOP allowing the world to out celebrate us! Honestly, I believe ONE person in your church coming to Christ is WAY more important than ANY awards show on television OR any touchdown scored in any football game ever played…and yet, once again, we allow the world to outshine us in the way they celebrate the temporary while we sit around and WORRY about how others may perceive the celebration! (BTW…only insecure people can’t celebrate what God is doing in your church!!!)
I have celebrated the numbers with our church since day one…it’s actually just way more public now because of social media. We had 115 people show up the first Sunday…and I WAS PUMPED! I celebrated when we broke 200, 500 and so on. I celebrate when one person comes to Christ…or when 490 do so like a few weeks ago!
Will people get upset when you do this? Of course…and I say ignore them! There are some people who cannot celebrate the success of others…which is sad because THE CHURCH ought to do it better than anyone.
(AND PLEASE do not allow musicians and authors who are not dedicated to a church to tear you down for celebrating the numbers. Because…if numbers do not matter then why in the heck do they always want you to download their latest release off of itunes OR buy their latest book? AND…one more thing about some of these guys…they crack on churches talking about the numbers, but when it comes to doing a concert or some sort of book tour…guess who many of them try to get in touch with? You guessed it…the churches with the numbers!)
One more time pastor…CELEBRATE! Don’t compare yourself to what God is doing in other places and “feel bad” because more people received Christ somewhere else than in your church. We are ALL on the same team!
Celebrate! Tell the WORLD about Jesus and what He is doing in the church you serve. We can’t blame God for the world not knowing how “at work” He is…we have to blame church leaders who refuse to talk about it because they are way more obsessed over what someone online is going to say about them than they are excited about the fact that THE RISEN CHRIST literally brought someone from DEATH to LIFE in their church!
CELEBRATE! It’s ok! Jesus celebrated, the church in Acts celebrated (and counted) and we should as well!
A Letter From Pastor P To NewSpring Church September 20, 2011
Howdy NewSpring Church, FIVE things I want to share with you today…
#1 – We had over 100 people surrender their lives to Christ this past Sunday!!! CELEBRATE THAT! We have to REFUSE to allow the world to outdo us when it comes to celebration! We must NEVER allow people crossing over from death to life to ever become “normal!”
#2 – This past Sunday was one of THE most exciting Sunday’s we’ve EVER had at NewSpring Church…we learned that CELEBRATION of all God has done should lead to ANTICIPATION of all He wants to do (Luke 12:48!) AND…as we talked about, 2000 years ago Jesus ascended into heaven and gave us the ball…not so we could merely study the playbook or stay in the huddle…but rather so we can RUN UP THE SCORE. I’m so excited that our church embraces the fact that…
- Found People Find People – Luke 19:10, II Corinthians 5:11-21
- Saved People Serve People – Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:35-45
- Growing People Change – Psalm 139:23-24, Romans 12:1-2
- I Can’t Do Life Alone – Hebrews 10:23-25
- I Can’t Outgive God – II Corinthians 9:6-15
#3 – This Sunday we will be concluding the eight week series in the book of Revelation…and like I said in the message I can promise you that it is going to be one of the most UNFORGETTABLE Sunday’s we’ve EVER experienced in the HISTORY of NewSpring Church. I’m asking you all to pray with me that God’s presence will be so obvious among us…and that HE will absolutely challenge and change people. AND…if you know someone who does not know Christ then GET THEM HERE…do whatever it takes. Let me say it one more time…it’s going to be the most powerful conclusion to a series we’ve EVER had.
#4 – Several of you have been asking…so I wanted to go ahead and announce it today that Clayton King, our teaching pastor, will be with us on October 2 & 9. I cannot WAIT for Clayton to be with us…the Lord always uses him in awesome/incredible ways to challenge, encourage, and inspire NewSpring Church.
#5 – One more time, PLEASE pray for me and a crew that will be traveling with me as we leave on Monday for a trip to Estonia and the UK where we will have the privilege of pouring into church leaders and sharing the Gospel. Pray that the Lord will allow me to be faithful to teach HIS Word, that I will have energy and passion and that we will see an unbelievable and undeniable harvest!!!
That’s it for today…I love you guys…I love my church…and I can’t WAIT until Sunday!!!
