Kenya February 2, 2009

Today I leave for Kenya…

We’re meeting at the Anderson campus to pray at 9:30…afterwards I will kiss Lucretia and Charisse goodbye and spend the next 19 hours on a plane.

I talked about this yesterday…but let me be BLUNTLY honest on this site…I am not going to Kenya because I want to!

I know that sounds incredibly insensitive and selfish…and, truth be known, many times I am both.  I love my home, my bed, my schedule…my, my, my (see a pattern?)

But more and more I am realizing that being a follower of Jesus Christ ISN’T about my comfort…but rather about my committment to follow Him wherever He asks me to go.

In mid December at around 5:30 am in my office at home He spoke so clearly to me and said, “Go to Kenya in February.”  I tried to get Him to let me send someone else…but He kept on pressing into me and telling me, “There’s something I want to do in you…but I’ve got to get you OUT of your routine!”

So…I’m going.  AND…to be honest, I’m excited!  I’m excited to see the opportunities that Jesus is about to place right in front of NewSpring Church…I’m excited about our church being able to make a difference on a global level.

AND…I’m also excited about what it is He is going to do in me.  I have a sense of anticipation like I’ve NEVER had before.  I am going to miss ‘Cretia, Charisse and the rest of my family here at NewSpring Church…but I really do believe that He is going to turn the flames up in my life hotter than they’ve ever been during this trip!

I would appreciate your prayers.  I have been told that I will not have a lot of internet access while there…but this blog will still be active for the next two weeks!  :-)  I am sure I will blog about it when I get back…I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do!

Here is the team going with me…if you want to keep us all in your prayers…

  • Jake Beaty
