A Mistake That Damaged My Marriage July 10, 2008

I did something the other night that I haven’t done in nearly eight and a half years of marriage.

Seriously, I’ve sort of been proud that I’ve never done “that.” I’ve seen other guys do “that” and thought, “Wow, I’m glad I’m not that stupid and insensitive.” I’ve seen how women react to a man who does “that” and the pain and distrust that it causes.

Men, I want to ask right here and now that all of us seriously make a commitment to not do “that” anymore. Lucretia has forgiven me…and I have promised to never let it happen again.

What is sad is that most couples never talk about “that” until after it happens, and usually by then it is too late because the damage has been done…and sometimes it gets very messy.

I’ve overheard women talking before about when men do “that,” and it is never in a positive tone. Honestly, I am afraid of what women are going to say about me now that I’ve done “that.”

I feel so ashamed. I was so careful for so long…but guys, one careless moment, one self centered second…and “that” can happen to you–and the pain could be devestating.

As I’ve said, ‘Cretia’s forgiven me…and I have promised her “that” will never happen again.

Oh yeah, I probably should tell you what “that” mistake was…

I left the toilet seat up! NOT GOOD!!!

She got up to go to the restroom at 3:00 AM and nearly took a plunge! (She said her quick reflexes saved her from a swim. I personally think her not falling in saved my life!!!)

Men, we’ve got to put the toilet seat down! There’s no excuse for anything less than giving that little extra effort to the ones we love the most.

Amen ladies? :-)
