My Passport
Lucretia and I recently took the time to go and get our passports. It wasn’t a very challenging process…just took some time and effort.
I remember getting them in the mail. I took mine out of the envelope and just stared at it and thought, “This is my ticket to the rest of the world! There is so much out there I do not know about–that I haven’t experienced or seen. There is so much I don’t know about…but with this, well, I can go and explore in places I’ve never been.”
It would do me no good to put my passport in a drawer somewhere and never use it. I now have something that gives me access to so much more to the world I have known and grown up in–and it needs to be used.
After thinking about that for a while I then began reflecting on my walk with God. On May 27th I will have been a Christ follower for 18 years…and, just being honest, I feel like my journey with Him is JUST beginning.
The Holy Spirit and His Scriptures are my passport. He has taught me so much about life…and death…and Himself…and His character…but there is SOOOOOO much more that I do not know.
I want to see Him as I’ve never seen Him before. I want an Isaiah 6:1-8 moment in my life!
I want to see Him do Acts 2:41 again.
I want to be able to get to the point where I can say Acts 20:24 as my life verse…and not just know it…but KNOW HIM!
There is so much about God’s Word, God’s Spirit, God’s Son, God’s character and God’s church that I do not know…
BUT…I have a passport. I can take the privilege that God has given me of getting to know Him on a more intimate basis and put it in a drawer…OR…I can pursue the opportunities He’s put in front of me with relentless passion and persistence.
If you are in Christ…God has given you a passport…He WANTS you to know Him. He is not some mysterious and distant deity who wants us to just try to figure life out on our own. He said in Jeremiah 29:11 that He has incredible plans for our lives…and then follows that up in Jeremiah 29:13 and says that He will reveal Himself to us if we will seek Him with all of our heart!!!
Think about it–THAT IS FREAKIN’ AWESOME…the Creator of the universe would make Himself known to us!!!
Lucretia and I have been out of the country once since getting our passport…but I hope for many more trips so that I can see where we’ve been by the stamps that have been placed there.
AND…I’m hoping that God continues to mark me every time He takes me to some place new. I don’t want my life to be the same next year…or even next week. So…I will take what He’s given me and beg Him to take me to new places…and celebrate when He does.
